Machrihanish, on the Mull of Kintyre, is one of the unsung heroes of Scottish Golf. Like the links at the Machrie, its isolation makes it difficult to travel to but the effort is rewarded with one of the purest tracts of links land.

Jack Nicklaus has described the first hole at Machrihanish as his favourite opening hole in the world, hitting over the beach to a distant fairway. The only question is - how much of the corner should you cut off?

With wide sweeping sea views and rolling sand dunes, this is a traditional nine out and nine in course and because of its location, the weather has a great influence on the course. With holes ranging from long par fours playing into the prevailing wind, to short par threes, the shortness of the course should mean an easy opportunity to better your handicap on a still day, however rarely is there a day when the wind doesn't blow.

It is isolated, remote, visually stunning and an outstanding course. Direct flights are available from Glasgow to the nearby airport. It compares favourably against some of the better known links courses and it a course that will not disappoint.
